As part of its continued growth Derek Lewis Limited, established in 1973, is strengthening its relationships with major partners in the construction industry to improve the nation’s infrastructure. These projects include several high profile jobs of regional and national importance, most recently, the company successfully won a tender to provide civil engineering works as a sub-contractor to Carillion on the M18 between Junction 2 and 3. Carillion, with annual revenues of more than £4 billion and a workforce of 40,000 worldwide, is a major integrated support service company attracting contracts from both the public and private sectors.
The M18 northbound carriageway scheme, part of the Pinch Point Programme was announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn 2011 budget, aims to ease bottlenecks and improve safety. Derek Lewis successfully secured contracts to the value of more than £1.5 million of a total contract valued at £10.13 million. The specific nature of the work provided by Derek Lewis on the M18 project was:
- Pipe laying and drainage
- 500 meters plus of carrier drain
- 250 meters plus of filter drain
- 30 plus manholes
- 45 plus gullies
- Excavated 25,000 tons of material
- Imported 28,000 tons plus of aggregate.
- Hard and soft landscaping
- 3000 tons plus of topsoil
- Combined drainage systems
- 100 meters of max e channels laid
